Programming – Jim Greenhouse Talks on Eclipses!  MEETING IS ONE WEEK LATER THAN USUAL!  And In the Adult Education Room – use the door on the East side of the church!

♣ Jim Greenhouse, Space Science Director at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science, visits to talk about “Eclipse Double Header in the American League.”
Space Science Director Jim Greenhouse talks on the Eclipse Double Header:  “On April 8, North America will enjoy its second solar eclipse in six months, following the one on October 14, 2023.  Find out how each of these eclipses was unique, in the way they appeared, places they could be seen, and how they were celebrated.  There won’t be another solar eclipse centered on the U.S. until 2045.”

Greenhouse has been the Space Science Director at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science for almost 10 years, and he brings more than 40 years of planetarium experience to the position.  Jim grew up in Amarillo, TX, where he had his first planetarium job as an assistant at the Don Harrington Discovery Center when he was 15 years old.  At 21, he became the director of the Science Place Planetarium in Dallas, TX.  He moved to Macon, GA, in 1992 to serve as the Planetarium Curator at the Museum of Arts & Sciences for 10 years.  After spending three years running the planetarium at the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis, TN, he moved back to Macon and became MAS’s Public Relations Director.  When the position became available, Jim returned to science education and supervised the planetarium, Mini-Zoo, and exhibitions.  During that time, he oversaw the renovation of the Mark Smith Planetarium into its current configuration.  In 2012, Jim moved to the Settlemyre Planetarium in Rock Hill, SC for one year before finding his current job in New Mexico, where there’s enormous potential to interpret astronomical discoveries.  Jim earned an associate’s degree in Mass Communications from Amarillo College and a BS in Radio and Television Production from UT Arlington.
