Jean Cocteau Cinema Presents the Meyer Brothers on CANCELED Sunday, April 26!
SANTA FE, N.M. — Join Join native New Mexican brothers and co-authors, Carlos and Paul Meyer, along with illustrator Margaret Hardy, as they talk about Under the Cottonwood Tree: El Susto de la
Curandera, a fairy tale adventure based on real New Mexican folklore. In addition to the talk, there will be a brief film about the brothers, as well as a signing.
About the Book: Set in Algodones in 1949, Under the Cottonwood Tree tells the tale of a curandera living in the bosque who casts a spell on a village boy turning him into a calf. His older brother must then set out to find a way to change him back. The journey unravels many secrets of the forest, touches upon friendship, forgiveness and the true meaning of El Susto de la Curandera! As Mark Twain highlighted the culture of his time, the Meyer brothers hope to highlight our culture in a similar manner through their graphic novel.
“It’s a winner that deserves an award in and of itself and is a standout among graphic novels, no matter what age group is being targeted.” – D. Donovan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review
Please join Carlos and Paul Meyer 4:00-6:00 pm Sunday, April 26, at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, 418 Montezuma in Santa Fe.
Entry is $5.00 (without a book purchase). With the book, it’s $30.00.
