Bubonicon 43 Guest Nominations

Nominations for Bubonicon 43 Special Guests (2011) will take place 7:30 pm Friday, April 23, in the Vista Norte Room of the Albuq Grand Airport Hotel on Yale Blvd SE. Mark your calendar if you’re interested. This meeting is open to everyone! You need not be a member of ASFS or a past attendee of Bubonicon to come and suggest possible guests. (However, a little research can be helpful in talking about why your nominee would be a great Bubonicon guest – titles of published work, where he/she lives, experiences at other cons.)

If you cannot attend but have suggestions, please get your nominations to Kristen or Craig by the end of Wednesday, April 21.

Our 5th Annual Dessert Cook-Off  +  Short Holiday-Oriented Silly SF Films.
The challenge ingredient this year (as chosen at the October ASFS meeting) is “coffee.” Please bring enough of your dish (and we’re happy stretching the definition of dessert) for 16-30 people to sample, plus serving utensils. We will provide plates, plasticware and napkins – and will try to remember bowls, too. As much as possible, there will be prizes!
Plus, we’ll screen various short films about the winter holidays from the various vaults of our members! These will tend to be comedies and silly bits.
Finally, the annual December issue of SithFacts will be available. Submissions are needed by Sunday, December 6 (email Craig C.).

Zombies Revisit Guild (again)

If you didn’t get enough zombies at Bubonicon 41, the Weekly Alibi Midnight Movie Madness presents I Sell the Dead 10:30 pm on Saturday, September 26, at the Guild Cinema.

I Sell the Dead is a 2009 American tongue-in-cheek horror comedy from writer/director Glenn McQuaid in limited theatrical release. On the eve of his execution, an 18th-century London graverobber (Dominic Monaghan from LOST) narrates a series of scary tales about his encounters with the undead to a curious priest (HELLBOY’s Ron Perlman). Look for cult director Larry Fessenden (HABIT, WENDIGO) and PHANTASM’s Tall Man himself, Angus Scrimm in cameo roles. Rated R, 85 minutes.

I Sell the Dead is an expansion of Irish director McQuai’ds 2005 short film The Resurrection Apprentice. In addition to allowing his characters to continue living, McQuaid says he wanted to create a full-scene comic book-style Victorian horror/comedy with a very different twist.

The Guild Cinema is located at 3405 Central Ave NE, in the Nob Hill area across from Flying Star Café and Starbuck’s. All seats $7.00, cash only.
